Tools for Protecting a Child's Purity
Pornography lesson for ages 3-8
I
was asked to give a presentation about pornography that was age-appropriate for
Junior Primary. It would work well for a
Family Home Evening lesson. The purpose
was to teach them to shun pornography, to give them skills to do so, and to
protect their purity and innocence.
Intro:
Who in here has a body? (funny
question! We all do of course!)
Are our bodies good or bad? (good!
Heavenly Father created them!)
Which is better, a girl body or a boy body? (another silly question. Both are Super!)
Because our bodies are so wonderful--even temples--and were created by
Heavenly Father, He asks us
to keep them covered.
Sometimes we see people who don’t.
These are Bad pictures. Sometimes
these bad pictures pop up on a computer screen or a phone.
There was a young boy named Connor whose friend gave him the letters to
put into his computer to see something cool!
It turned out to be a bad pictures and he felt terribly inside! He turned it off quickly, then went to his room—he
didn’t want to tell anyone. Later, when
he was saying his prayers, he got the feeling to tell his parents. They helped him. See “Crash & Tell,” a story from The
Friend, June 2011. https://www.lds.org/friend/2011/06/crash-and-tell?lang=eng&query=Crash+and+Tell
Show a Big Letter “T”
The letter T will help us know what to do if we ever see something bad.
1—Turn it Off!
Find the button on your screen.
Know right where it is so you can turn it off fast, if ever you see
something you don’t want to see!
---Practice on a computer— Give
a child a baseball hat for a costume (opt.) to act out the situation. They are sitting at the computer and having
fun, then “Oh my!” a bad picture appears, so they turn it off quick!
--Practice on TV remote— Give a
different child a headband for a costume, and the TV remote, so they
can act out turning off a bad commercial or show quickly!
2— Turn Away! (T is also for
Turn Away)
Sometimes we might see a bad picture at the Grocery Store or on a
billboard. What do I do? I can’t turn it off! A primary song to sing is a good idea! Another idea is to follow the “Eagle”
Eagle Story—Two missionaries were walking down the city street, and ran
into billboards and signs that had bad pictures on them. What should they do? They wanted to think about good things, and
always keep the Holy Ghost with them! This
is what they decided: the minute they
saw something bad, they “turned it into" (pretended it was) an Eagle in
Flight and followed that Eagle over their head and around behind them. They were then focused on something else! Quickly, they had Turned Away from the bad
picture!
--Practice following Eagle—Put a tie or a missionary tag on a child for
a costume and practice “seeing” something bad in front of them, then quickly
pretending it turns into an eagle and follow it flying high above him, then on
behind him.
3—Tell!
Has anyone ever told you a Secret?
There are good secrets (like a surprise I am making my mom and dad for
Christmas) and there are
Bad secrets (like when someone says not to tell anyone that she cheated
).
Whenever anyone
says “Don’t tell your Mom and Dad” that is a Bad Secret.
That means you Should Tell! Mom and Dad will help you know the right thing to do.
4—Your Mind
What if a bad pictures stays inside your mind? What if you can’t get rid of it?
How can you get it out?
--Demonstration—Use an empty Paper towel roll, which represents our Mind.
Spray paint one cotton ball black, which represents bad thought,or bad picture—a dark thing. Put it in your “mind”—the paper towel roll.
Now I need some Light to get rid of the dark. What are things I can do to add more light?
--scriptures
--prayers
--blessing on food
--be nice
--help someone
--good music
--do these things again
--take the Sacrament
--etc.
Put white cotton balls into the roll, one for each thing mentioned that
adds light.
After a long time, the dark one leaves!
(It drops out the other end of the paper towel roll.)
And our minds are filled with light!
Bear Testimony that God loves us.
He wants us to be happy. He wants
us to be smart, and avoid the bad things.
Remember the T things? Turn it
Off. Turn Away. Tell! Let’s say it again:
Jesus died for us, so that we can get rid of the dark things and choose
the light. He loves us so much, and
wants us to be happy. And I know that we
will be happy, if we Choose the Right, and Choose the Light.
